A post is a small metal stick to be placed in the natural tooth’s root after a root treatment. Typically, a post is made in metal or carbon fibres and it forms the basis of a dental crown. The dentist will recommend a post and a crown if the root is firmly fastened in the jawbone and if the natural crown is too damaged or fragile to form the basis for an artificial crown.
